one of my favorites from lately.  i have lots to update about, including my new sort-of job, leslie’s dance class and new school, lucy’s walking, etc., but that will have to wait for another time.  for now, enjoy these two sweet babies wearing their hand-smocked dresses courtesy of their aunt leah.  (what i wouldn’t give to be able to do something crafty…)

rainy day fun

yesterday and today have been full of rain, rain, and more rain around here.  we’ve been bored having to stay in the house…so bored that yesterday i voluntarily took both of my children to kroger in the rain.  not sure i’ll ever try that again, but at least it got us out of the house for a little while.  today, we sent michael to work with the car, so we’re homebound until 4:30.  we’ve managed to have some fun though.  leslie got to do a few ballerina moves in her new tutu that yia-yia got her:

she was so thrilled to have a new one that she even let her baby sister wear one of the old ones:

there was some girl talk:

lucy says, “i’m not listening to you anymore!”

books were read:

we giggled a lot:

and then, once lucy went down for her morning nap (little sisters miss all the fun!), we made a fort:

hope your wednesday is fun!

home again

and glad to be here.  the first part of our trip was amazing…the girls loved LOVED hanging out with their aunt e, as did we.  on tuesday we drove a couple hours down the road to hilton head where a stomach virus had gotten ma and kayla.  it proceeded to infect howard on tuesday night, patti on wednesday, and me and lucy on thursday.  we left thursday night around 9:00, drove until 1:30am, stopped for the night, and then came the rest of the way on friday.  lucy had a rough trip home…lots of sickness that really should never EVER be discussed again because sickness in an enclosed space is worse than sickness anywhere else.  yuck.  michael got sick friday on our way home and still isn’t feeling great.  luckily, leslie seems to have avoided it all.  so, here are a few photos from our trip.  lucy loved the ocean, and leslie is already talking about wanting to go back!

we’re at the beach right now with michael’s sister.  tomorrow we leave for hilton head for three days and then back home.  right now, the house is quiet, i’m having a date with erin’s tivo, the laundry is running, and i am remembering our previous trips to the beach.  thought you all might enjoy a little trip down memory lane as much as i have, so here goes:

leslie’s first trip to the beach. sullivan’s island, sc. august 2006

leslie’s second trip to the beach.  sullivan’s island & hilton head island, sc.  july 2007.

and this is trip number five.  lucy’s first.  i’ll upload some pictures when we get home.  thanks for walking with me…now to finish the laundry…

every day i promise myself that i will post pictures and blog a little bit…and every day i go to sleep without doing it.  apparently, taking care of a know-it-all toddler and an almost-mobile baby takes more time than i realize.  we’ve been busy this summer.  here’s a quick rundown of how we’ve been spending all of our time:

IMG_4314michael built this massive plaything that leslie loves.  lucy also loves it.

IMG_4304we bought a teeny tiny backyard pool, which is quite a hit with the younger miss forston.

IMG_4319on rainy days or days that are too hot to be outside we dress up in clothes that are too small and dance around leslie’s room.

IMG_4324leslie and mommy get matching pedicures.  fancy, huh?

IMG_4334on lucky days, the fedex man brings us presents.

IMG_4350we wait for daddy to come home from work.

IMG_4366we play hide ‘n’ seek.  lucy counts while leslie hides.

IMG_4371on very sad days we go to the pediatrician.  mommy promises leslie that she won’t have to get a shot.  obviously, mommy is a liar.  so, to make up for it we go to toys r us and spend $80.

IMG_4383we invite our neighbors over to swim…

IMG_4388and sometimes we make him wear a bikini.  he’s a good sport about it…just don’t tell his dad.

IMG_4389lucy cools down by climbing into the refrigerator.

IMG_4396we give ourselves, like, totally awesome hair-dos.

it’s a busy, busy place.  but it’s a good kind of busy.  the kind that makes you smile when you finally fall into bed.  we are blessed beyond measure, and that’s a great feeling to have.

…the cutest thing you’ve ever seen! enjoy.

last night was leslie’s debut as a dancer and she did such a great job!  she was completely taken with all the lights and people, and she is definitely a performer.  i am proud to admit that i had tears streaming down my cheeks the entire time she was on stage.  before leslie i had no idea that my heart could love anybody as much as i love her.  she fills me with such joy and i am so proud of the sweet girl that she is becoming!  here are a few pictures.  i’ll work on getting the video up this week.

30

today, leslie & lucy’s uncle erin turns 30, and we think that’s pretty great.  leslie is one of erin’s biggest fans, which speaks volumes to what an awesome person erin is.  leslie has only met erin once, but she still asks about her all the time.  when i told her that today was uncle erin’s birthday she shrieked, demanded that we get her a card (making a card simply will not do…uncle erin *needs* a sparkly princess card), and asked if we could send her a birthday message.  so, here’s your happy birthday from leslie.  we wish we could be there to celebrate with you!

cake

in case you missed the last post with the photographic evidence, we’ve had a LOT of birthday cake around here lately.  so much that i made michael take some of the leftovers to work with him.  one morning leslie slept past her normal wake-up time of 7:00, so michael cut her a small piece of cake for an after lunch treat and took the rest to work.  upon waking, i asked leslie what she wanted to have for breakfast.

her:  nothing.

me:  well, you need to eat something.  how about a cereal bar and some yogurt?

her:  (spying the cake)  how about birthday cake?

me:  no.  that’s for after lunch.

her:  okay, i’ll have lunch for breakfast then.
